Some reasons you may be
looking for a BS8418 system could include: a. to protect staff during
the day and goods during the night. b. most BS8418 systems are
purchased to protect expensive goods, which are stored outside. These
may include cars, lorries, trailers or building products. c. BS8418
systems may be considered as an electronic replacement for or an enhancement
to security guarding services. Where some guarding services are
replaced the cost savings often pay toward or cover the cost of the
installation & maintenance of the system.

Brief Summary of BS8418
 |
Field of View – The standard requires that camera & detector
fields of view should match one another and be confined to within site
boundaries and not extend into public areas. |
 |
Light – There should be sufficient light (night & day) to
illuminate the cameras’ fields of view. |
 |
System integrity – Each detector must be uniquely identifiable to the
system. All cabling & detection devices should incorporate tamper
protection. |
 |
Event Verification – To verify an event the field of view should
be set so BS8418 set criteria. Fixed cameras are the advised
option for vulnerable areas. If Pan Tilt & Zoom cameras are used in
isolation, use should be made of presets so that the operator will
observe each incident as though it were viewed by a static camera.
|
 |
Audio Challenge – An audio challenge facility (integrated
public
address and/or voice alarm system) is required to guarantee level 1 police response. The audio
challenge should be audible in all areas of detection.
|
 |
Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery - The installation of a
back-up UPS system should be considered. The system should have the
ability to monitor and indicate video loss to the Remote Video Receiving
Centre (RVRC). The system should have an alternative signalling path to
indicate failure of the main signalling path to the RVRC. |
The attitudes of Police & Insurers are
driving up the requirement for commercial premises to have security systems.
However where a user requires a level 1 police response to their remote
monitored CCTV system, adherence to BS8418 will be mandatory. A Site
Survey by our Surveyors will provide an accurate security Risk Assessment of
your premises and effective Security Systems Solutions Specification.
We will liaise with
your Insurance Assessor and Insurance Company providing additional copies of
